Stephen has over thirty years of business experience. He was a principle in businesses across multiple industries including: pharmaceutical, commercial/residential construction, automotive, retail, real estate, medical sales, healthcare, property management, and restaurant. A classic entrepreneur, he has extensive experience in business creation, marketing, sales, business development and management. His passions include making things grow, making a difference, and empowering people.

Entrepreneurial Professional:

Swan created the Artifax stores in Norfolk and Virginia Beach in 1991. Prior to founding SoluGroup, he was VP of Development for Reborn Properties, essentially an entrepreneur for hire, he developed Riverside Mill, an 85,000 sq ft mixed use tourist destination. It included an antique mall, an art gallery and outlet stores. He also started My Video Factory, a video production studio, and consulted on several other business units including, Wolf Trap Farm, a 600 acre horse farm with a bed and breakfast, and Bay Housing, a property management company. He has worked for Merck Pharmaceuticals, and Owens and Minor.

Awards and Commendations:

Stephen received a Small Town Business Award for Historic Restoration from North Carolina for Economic Development in 2010. His sales achievements include Circle of Excellence Team Award, 2006, and Outstanding Sales Award in 1986 and 1989 from Owens and Minor. Artifax was selected as a Top 10 American Craft Gallery in 1998 , and a Top 100 1995-2001 by national magazine Niche. Artifax also won numerous Best at the Beach and Best in Norfolk Awards for sales and service excellence.

Community Service:

Stephen has worked with a variety of non-profit organizations including Ghent Business Association, American Craft Council, World Dreams Peace Bridge, Image Project, Buyers Market of American Craft, Craft Business Institute and Poseidia Institute.

Personal Life:

Stephen lives at the Oceanfront. He mountain bikes most days. He is passionate about music, as is his son, Spencer. Spencer studies business at American University in Washington, DC. You can catch Spencer’s radio show “Traveling West On Swans” on
